Step 01

Prepare Seating for All

The last thing you want is for guests to feel cramped on a too-small sofa, or worse, run out of seats entirely. Lock in hours of comfort with spacious, cushioned sofas and sectionals. Worried about spills? Invest in performance fabrics that are easy to wipe down. Want a special lucky chair for yourself? Opt for a recliner that can serve as your designated game day throne.

Choose a color foundation
Set the tone of the room by starting with a foundation color. Neutrals work particularly well for your walls, floor, or fixed surfaces that dominate a room.
Complement with a secondary color
Select a secondary color that complements your foundation. It should create subtle contrast that doesn’t compete with the foundation color.

Finish with a pop of pattern
Create contrast with patterned furniture that adds flair. The upholstery should complement your palette while still standing out in the room.
Step 02

Create Contrast With Scale and Color

Create visual interest by layering one or multiple patterns. Patterns of differing scales (small, medium, large) tend to complement one another for a cohesive design. Another way to create contrast is to use color, offsetting light and dark colors to make certain elements pop as the focal points.

Step 03

Find Harmony in Different Patterns

Not all patterns are created equal. In order to display multiple patterned elements that don’t compete for attention, we recommend mixing and matching different types of prints to find a complementary pairing. For instance, mixing geometric and floral prints creates trend-forward interest, whereas designing with only geometric or only floral prints can make a room feel too busy.

Step 04

Push Your Style Boundaries

Our last and perhaps most important tip: Have fun with it. One person’s faux pas may be another’s radical design solution. Ensure you’re having fun and letting your personality shine through your design decisions. The rules of style are meant to guide your choices, so don’t be afraid to bend them to create a space that best represents your unique style and design POV.
